KTI Ice Water Chiller Plants (CIWP)

KTI Ice Water Chiller Plants serve as the basis for cooling concrete. Since water is always used in the production of concrete, it must be cooled as deeply as possible. Likewise, KTI Ice Water Chiller Plants are used in water cooling, also called hydrocooling. Here, cold water of almost 0°C quickly extracts heat from the concrete.

Plant information

A KTI Ice Water Chiller Plants is equipped with a special ice water pool . The system consists of a water tank in which a plate or coil heat exchanger is installed. Ice can form around this heat exchanger without destroying the system by volumetric expansion due to freezing of water. The water circulates around these heat exchangers, which are slightly covered with ice. In this way the water temperature is between 0°C and 1°C. Only in this way can the low temperatures be achieved without the water freezing.
  • The ice water systems will be in 20-foot or 40-foot ISO containers turnkey preinstalled. This depends on the required capacity, which is available from 60 m³ to 450 m³ of ice water per day.
  • The most common fresh water temperatures are +20°C in temperate climates, +30°C in hot regions and +45°C in tropical areas.

Our ice water systems have been reliably in use since the end of the 1980s. Planning an installation for concrete cooling always starts with cooling water as close to 0 °C as possible. The ice water can then be added directly to the concrete mixer and also used for the efficient production of ice. It would not make technical and economic sense to work with hot water here and at the same time to cool at another place.
