Gotthard Tunnel - SAUTER heating systems for the construction of the second tube

The Gotthard tunnel project in Switzerland is one of the most important and challenging infrastructure projects in Europe. With a length of almost 18 kilometers and its location deep under the Gotthard massif, the construction of the second tube poses enormous technical challenges. KTI is proud to be making a significant contribution to the successful implementation of this project with its innovative concrete heating systems.

Purely electric - heating systems without emissions

In June 2024, KTI delivered SAUTER concrete heating systems to Airolo. In this project, not only does the issue of concrete temperature play a central role, but also the requirement to supply a system that produces no emissions, as work is carried out directly in the tunnel. This meant that a specially adapted solution had to be developed.

KTI met these challenges with the development of an all-electric SAUTER concrete heating system, the E-Booster, which operates without emissions and still provides the necessary heating capacity. These systems ensure uniform heating of the concrete, which is particularly important in the critical phases of the construction project. Precise temperature control enables optimum curing of the concrete, even under the extreme climatic conditions in the tunnel. The concrete heating system is characterized by 100% electrical operation, precise temperature control and modular flexibility. As the construction work takes place directly in the tunnel, the systems have been designed to operate emission-free and thus emit no harmful substances. This meets all the requirements of the Gotthard Tunnel project – both in terms of quality and environmental friendliness. This project impressively demonstrates how KTI supports even the most complex construction projects with innovative technologies. Thanks to our SAUTER E-BOOSTER, we are making a decisive contribution to the progress of European infrastructure and at the same time setting new standards for sustainable construction methods.
